Chapter 16

RYDER

As soon as my eyes opened, I realized I was completely naked and had my arms and legs wrapped around Charie’s naked body, too.

That’s how we got through the night, I thought. Body heat.

We had been so exhausted that we’d fallen asleep immediately and never woke up in the middle of the night.

As I felt her perky breasts and taut nipples rubbing against my skin, my hormones went crazy again. I felt myself getting hard.

The sunlight was now streaming brightly and strongly through the clear window with no curtains. I hoped no one had peeked inside, or they would have seen us like this.

Charie stirred. I wanted to let my lips and my fingers touch the soft, silky surface of her skin once again. I felt so engulfed in my carnal desires. It wasn’t like me to lose control like that, but Charie was… just different.

Her eyes popped open. And when she saw me and felt me, a shocked expression came upon her face. She pulled away and covered herself with the blankets. “What did you do?” were her immediate words.

I could not help chuckling. “What did I do? Well, what did you do?!” I threw the question back at her, making her glare at me. She slapped me hard.

“Ouch,” I cried out, pulling away and climbing out of the bed. I saw her hazel brown eyes widening as my stark nakedness was exposed in the daylight. She averted her eyes, blushing profusely. That was certainly charming.

I put on my boxers and grabbed the crackers from the bedside table. “Time for breakfast before we go on our way.”

“Turn around!” she demanded.

“But I’ve already seen —”

“Ssshhh! Turn around!”

“Okay, alright!” I raised my arms in surrender, turning around with a big, goofy grin on my face. All at once, I remembered every detail of our intimate moment, making my heart race and my body heat up.

I finished my cracker fast and then got dressed at once. Then I heard something ringing and vibrating. It was coming from the floor. When I looked down, I saw my cellphone there.

“I wonder who put that there,” I said aloud jokingly, glancing at Charie, who was now fully dressed and was busy brushing her hair.

“Don’t blame me!” she snapped, her eyes flashing with guilt and confusion. But her face had that after-sex glow, and I loved it. I was mesmerized, temporarily forgetting about the phone call.

“Answer it,” Charie demanded. “It might be important. We have to get out of here now.”

It was an unknown number. But once I heard the voice on the other line, I knew that it was my cousin Emily.

“Hey, Em. What’s up?”

“Ryder! Have you heard from James yet?”

“No. Why? I didn’t have any signal throughout the night. There was a blizzard. It’s a long story.”

“Well, okay. Anyway, I just wanted to give you a heads-up.” I didn’t like her tone. She went on, speaking quite fast, as I walked over to the door and opened it. Outside, everything seemed normal already, as if there hadn’t been any trouble the previous evening.
